Class Descriptions
The Literacy Center (TLC) provides English language and literacy instruction for teens and adults. Trained volunteers can participate in various instructional opportunities.
Drop-In Tutoring Lab
Volunteer tutors are available to provide immediate service for all learners at our Drop-In Tutoring Lab, The Literacy Center. Our drop in lab has 9 computer stations and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00pm to 7:00pm. It is a convenient option for learners who have changing or rotating schedules. We offer a variety of resource materials in a friendly atmosphere and are available to anyone who drops in.
Center Classes
These classes are held on site at The Literacy Center and cover a variety of topics: Citizenship, Pronunciation, Reading and Writing, Health Literacy and Computer Literacy. Fall, Spring and Summer classes are available.
Community Classes
These classes are held in various locations around the community and in the unincorporated areas surrounding Flagstaff. The Community Classes offer English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction for a diverse population. Most Community Classes are offered year round.
One-to-One Tutoring
The TLC staff matches trained volunteers with teens or adults who require individual instruction or have specific, short-term goals that need to be met. Eligibility for this program is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Partnership for Literacy Rehabilitation
This partnership was created with the Coconino County Jail, Juvenile Detention and Adult Probation. Volunteers help build literacy and language skills for the incarcerated and newly released in the jail, juvenile detention or adults and teens who are on probation.
